The Kenya Tea Growers Association is a dynamic organization in the tea industry, established to promote industry leadership and foster profitable growth in harmony with good corporate citizenship and a sustainable
approach to business.
Its membership is drawn from public and private Tea Companies in Kenya.
The Association seeks to recruit an innovative, dynamic and results oriented professional to fill the position of Executive Officer who will be based at its head office in Kericho.
Executive Officer
The Position
Reporting to the Chairman of the Association, the Executive Officer will provide leadership and be responsible for promotion and coordination of issues of common interest in industrial relations, cultivation & processing of tea, advising on topical issues affecting the industry and implementing the Executive Committee decisions.
 
Key Responsibilities
The jobholder will:
a) Drive and coordinate all negotiations on behalf of the Association; this includes negotiation on Terms and Conditions of employment, Recognition Agreements, Collective Bargaining Agreements and lobby relevant stakeholders on behalf of the Association
b) Provide a strong focal point for a consensual approach to current external challenges and spearhead the Association responses including amongst others; levies, Tea Cess and Legislative developments.
c) Establish, maintain, and strengthen linkages for collaboration and networking amongst members and other stakeholders.
d) On behalf of the Association, maintain close liaison (including official representation where applicable) with key stakeholders such as the Federation of Kenya Employers, National Industrial Training Authority, EATTA and the Tea Board of Kenya.
e) Monitor economic, regulatory and other related trends in order to determine their potential impact on plans and operations of the Association.
f) Develop and nurture business relationships that can be leveraged in order to achieve the Association’s objectives.
g) Establish relationships with all the existing related parties and new parties of interest to the industry.
h) Oversee the overall management of the Association in order to ensure that all key performance requirements are met.
i) Establish appropriate processes and tools for planning, budgeting, reporting and monitoring progress.
j) Monitor the market activities in order to identify new business opportunities.
k) Be responsible for the recruitment, performance management, and identification of training needs and career development initiatives for staff members working in the Association.
l) Monitor, guide, report and coordinate the Association approach to a sustainable CSR strategy. This includes institutions owned or managed by the Association.
 
The person
  • Bachelor’s degree. Qualification and experience in Law and or Human Resource Management is desirable.
  • At least seven (7) years management experience, five of which should be in a Senior Management level in business associations, business advocacy groups or equivalent organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenya Labour Laws, Agricultural Laws, International Labour Standards, Industrial Relations Practice in Kenya, Industry Standards and Trends in the Labour Market.
  • Energetic, entrepreneurial, self driven and of impeccable integrity.
  • Innovative with the ability to identify and harness new and existing opportunities to grow the businesses.
  • Conversant with economic, political and social development issues at national, regional and international levels.
  • Possesses excellent managerial and organizational development skills with the ability to provide focused leadership.
  • Communicates clearly and in a concise manner (both orally and in writing).
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to network and develop strong business relationship

Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with lOCs and other related companies in the industry.
  • Responsible for the handling of bids and supervision of bidding team to ensure success of projects

Job Title: Consultant – Ref: CONSLT/09/2012 

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for business relationships with IOCs and other related companies in the oil and gas industry.
  • Advices Management on business prospects.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and communications with external customers and suppliers.
  • Extrapolates ideas into product requirements and applying the philosophy of concurrent design to project processes, schedules and budgets
  • Follow through and support the Commercial Manager in the identification of new opportunities in the industry
  • Plan, direct and coordinate projects and programmes to ensure that they meet objectives
  • Ability to deliver projects within the critical path from scoping through to dose-out.
  • Manage (through a combination of document authoring and managing of document authors) a wide variety of project management deliverables including (but not limited to); project manuals / project execution plans, risk registers, project schedules, variation orders, and tracking registers, monthly project reports (MPRs), daily project reports (DPRs), progress meeting minutes etc.
  • Lead and manage the development and implementation of the PEP (Project Evaluation Plan), project set up and close out for each project in accordance to company’s procedures.


Requirements:
  • Must possess a good University degree or its equivalent in the social sciences, holders of Masters Degree will be added advantage.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have a good knowledge of the oil and gas industry especially marine operations

The Key functions of the Commission include promoting gender and equality and freedom from discrimination principles in accordance with Article 27 of the Constitution and promoting integration of the principles of equality and freedom from discrimination in National and County policies, laws and administrative regulations.
In order to strengthen its capacity, the Commission is seeking to recruit suitable, qualified and highly committed individuals to fill the following positions. 1. Deputy Commission Secretary
Programme And Research – (Re- Advertisement):
REF: NGEC/3/2012 – 1 POST
Reporting to the Commission Secretary, the Deputy Commission Secretary Programmes and Research is responsible for developing programmes, undertaking research and monitoring and evaluation;
Duration: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ensuring preparations, implementation and evaluation of the Commission’s work plans;
  • Ensuring strategic leadership in project proposals, development and management;
  • Taking leadership in developing of M and E indicators for tracking implementation progress;
  • Establishing linkages with key stakeholders and partners;
  • Managing the process of carrying out relevant research on emerging issues within the mandate of the Commission;
  • Preparing periodic reports providing the status of the various complaints/ investigations;
  • Collating research on current trends of dispute resolution with comparable institutions;
  • Developing and implementing best practices, policies, procedures and systems for research;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Be a citizen of Kenya;
  • Holds a degree from a recognized University recognized in Kenya in any of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, Public Finance, Law, Business Administration, Logistics or any other degree in any related field;
  • Have at least 5 – 10 years proven relevant experience at senior management level with demonstrated track record in delivering significant strategic initiatives;
  • Good appreciation and understanding of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
  • Masters Degree in any relevant field will be an added advantage;
  • Must be computer literate;
  • Must meet the requirements of chapter 6 of the Kenya Constitution;
  • Project management, Monitoring and Evaluation skills will be an added advantage;

2. Procurement Officer:
REF: NGEC/1/2012 – 1 POST
Reporting to the Commission Secretary, the Procurement Officer will play a critical role in the day – to – day operations and execution of the procurement strategies to enable the procurement department to deliver on its objectives.
Duration: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable
Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement procurement policies and procedures in line with procurement laws and regulations;
  • Ensure that user departments adhere to procurement plans in line with approved budgets;
  • Conduct market surveys, monitor and evaluate performance of the supply chain function;
  • Ensure sound partnerships with suppliers, clients and relevant Government agencies;
  • Ensure timely, efficient and effective procurement of goods, services and works, while strictly adhering to the procurement policy;
  • Prepare requests for quotations or tenders from pre-qualified suppliers of the Commission;
  • Process applications and to prepare the Commission’s Tender Committee papers;
  • Establish in liaison with the relevant departments and end-users, quality specifications of goods and services required by the Commission;
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in purchasing and supplies management from a recognized institution;
  • Three (3) years experience in a busy procurement department;
  • Knowledge of public procurement and disposal act and regulations;
  • Demonstrate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of procurement process, policies and procedures;
  • Must be a member of Institute of Purchasing and Supplies Management.
3. Internal Auditor:
REF: NGEC/2/2012 – 1 POST
The Internal Auditor will help the Commission accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
Duration: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Secretary of the Commission administratively and to the Audit Committee operationally, some main duties include the following:
  • Continually assess and review Risks;
  • Confirming information/reports generated within and outside the Commission;
  • Analyzing operations;
  • Reviewing Compliance;
  • Recommending Controls;
  • Assuring safeguards;
  • Giving Quarterly reports to the Commission;
  • Liaising with external Auditors;
  • Ensure Supervision and training of staff internal audit;
  • Secretary to the Audit Committee.
Qualifications and Experience
  • University graduate in Accountancy/Finance/Business Administration or equivalent from a recognized University;
  • Fully qualified accountant with CPA, ACCA or equivalent;
  • Minimum Five years working experience in a Senior Position in a large organization;
  • Good knowledge of Government practice and operations;
  • Compliance with chapter six of the constitution of Kenya.
